Marja-Leena Hirvonen was born in Kitee, Finnland, in 1987. Since 2008 she lives and works in Cologne. She studied stage dance at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and since her graduation in 2012 worked on several projects as dancer/co-choreographer in cooperation with artists from various disciplines (dance, installation, design, music, theatre, video, photography) in North Rhine-Westphalia and abroad. Marja-Leena Hirvonen developed her own works in Cologne and Austria – her first work was developed in the framework of the trainee-choreographer programme Werkstück, which is initiated and maintained by the Tanzquartier Wien annually and supported by the Akademie der Künste der Welt in Cologne. Her duet Zweisamkeit with Markus Tomczyk was performed at various festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia. Her most recent piece Trinity for four dancers was supported by the city of Cologne, Kunststiftung NRW, SK Stiftung Köln, ZAIK and Tanzfaktur, and premiered in Cologne in November 2015. Marja-Leena also works as dancer/performer for a variety of local projects, for example with FREIraum-Ensemble in Odonien.
