Light forms space (2014)
Light - artificial and natural - is in a constant interaction with space. As humans constantly move in a combination of light and space, this dual relationship is only made aware when triggering extraordinary reactions. The effect of the light can create different phenomena in the observer. With complimentary light colours for example, afterimages can be created, constant change of colours simulates mist for the eyes of the observer. Even three-dimensionality can be neutralised, height, depth and distances manipulated and movement suggested. These phenomena of perception lead to physical reaction which create an encompassing feeling of disorientation and therefore irritation. Carla Zimmermanns documented her light experiments and created a catalogue, a encyclopedia for designers who want to create light effects in space with simple tools.
