Georgia Koumará, born 1991 in Thessaloniki, studied musical composition (M.Mus.) in Thessaloniki (A.U.TH) and Cologne (HfMT), composition and piano in Thessaloniki (S.C.TH) under, among others, Michalis Lapidakis, Johannes Schöllhorn, Kostas Siempis, Lenio Liatsou and Lilia Vaseiliadou. Alongside participating in festivals such as the Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik (International Summer School for New Music) Darmstadt 2012, the impuls Akademie Graz 2013, Donaueschinger Musiktage (The Donaueschingen Festival) – New Generation Programm 2015, or the meeting of composers in Milan at SoW, she was inspired by composers such as G. Aperghis, B. Ferneyhough, B. Furrer, F. Bedrossian, G.F. Haas, H. Thomalla, R. Cendo, J.S. Chiong, P. Kokkoras, J. Walsche, J.M. Lopez Lopez. Her pieces are to be performed by, among others, by the WDR Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra of the Cologne University for Music and Dance, dissonArt ensemble, hand werk, Platypus, the Greek Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Salonicco Quartet, the TSSO Schlagzeug Ensemble (percussion ensemble) and the Taller Sonoro Ensemble. Since 2010 she has been a member of the 6daEXIt Ensembles for improvisatory and intermedia music. As pianist and improviser she has worked together with many professional ensembles and interpreted for new and experimental music in Greece. As a composer her artistic propensities lie in the philosophical observation of sound.
