Maxim Kolomiiets was born in Kiev in 1981 and graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine as an oboist in 2005 and as a composer in 2009. He is laureate of the national competition Gradus ad Parnassum (Kiev, 2000), Step to the Left (St. Petersburg, 2012) and was awarded third place in the Vareler Kompositionspreis (Oldenburg, 2015). As an oboist he has participated in many Ukrainian and foreign festivals and master classes, such as the Ensemble Academy (Freiburg), International Summer Course for New Music (Darmstadt, 2010), impuls Academy (Graz, 2011), Per Suonare l’Oboe (Freiburg, 2011). His music has been performed at many international festivals, among others Sonstige Flächen (Moscow), GOGOLFEST (Kiev), Contrasts (Lemberg), International Summer Course for New Music (Darmstadt), Randspiele (Zepernick, 2012 and 2013) and the World Music Days (Leuven, 2012). His music has been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (Kiev), Kiev Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Nostri Temporis (Kiev), GAMEnsemble (Moscow), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (Moscow), Ensemble MusikFabrik (Cologne), Lions Gate Trio (U.S. and Europe), Vladislav Pesin (Moscow), Ian Pace (London), Helen Bledsoe (Cologne). Maksym Kolomiiets is cofounder of the ensemble for contemporary music Ensemble Nostri Temporis and founder of the ensemble for baroque music Luna Ensemble in which he plays an active role as oboist and organiser. He is solo oboist for the contemporary music ensemble Ukho (Kiev) and the Russian Chamber Philharmonic St. Petersburg (Frankfurt am Main). Since 2014, he has studied composition at the Cologne University of Music (HFMT) under Professor Johannes Schöllhorn.
